Scores: 2023 European Dressage Championships SUMMARY

The 2023 European Dressage Championships featured a captivating journey through three distinct phases of competition. It all began with the Grand Prix, the initial test. Here, the competition was not only about individual excellence but also national representation. The British team clinched the gold medal, surpassing the hosts and defending European champions from Germany who secured the silver, while Denmark earned the bronze. Sweden secured the fourth position, and the Netherlands took the fifth plBelgium, Austria, and Spain qualify for 2024 Olympics Games in Paris. Portugal landed 10th place in the team ranking, behind Spain,  therefore Portugal did not achieve that coveted Olympic spot for Paris, like they did at the 2019 Europeans for Tokyo.

From there, the field was narrowed down to the top 30 individuals who earned the privilege to advance to the second phase, known as the Grand Prix Special. It was in this phase that the first individual medals were bestowed, adding a layer of excitement to the event.

The climax of the championships came in the form of the Grand Prix Freestyle, the third and final phase of the competition. Here, the top 18 combinations faced off.  Each country could send a maximum of three riders to compete in the final Freestyle. If a country had four riders qualified for this phase, only the three best were allowed to participate, while the remaining slot(s) were reallocated to the next combination(s) in line.
